FCP with the various HVX formats

Hey guys

I apologize for the question in advance, I just needed to clarify a few things and I heard that you guys were great helps. I am just about to purchase the HVX202, but I have heard that FCP cannot edit the 720p format. Is this schedueled to change anytime soon? Does it support all the other formats without any problems?

Is 1080i the most 'film' looking format?

Thanks a bunch

Alan

25p is the format you want for the filmlike look. You can get 25p in either 720 or 1080 resolution. 1080 will retain a bit more recorded resolution than 720 will; 720 can take up half as much space on the card than 1080.

FCP can edit 720/25p if you use P2 Log from Imagine Software. Without P2 Log, FCP doesn't currently support 720/25p. It does support 1080/25p though, with or without P2 Log.

....and you can always do 24p just fine, but it doesn't play on Euro TVs. I wonder if you could reconform 24 to 25? I know there are tools to conform 25 to 24 in FCP.

The term 1080i 25p has always confused me.... is it progressive or interlaced? I kinda suspect that its captured as interlaced then 'converted' to progressive. Is that right?

Indy......

No, that's how the XLH1 and the Sony FX1/Z1 do it. The Panasonic is the opposite; it's captured progressive and converted to interlaced for recording. The recording format is interlaced, the footage is progressive. It's like progressive footage being carried in an interlaced basket.
