Hi,
Great forum, I will be here more often :)

I am in need to buy a computer, and I need to know to what point is G5 mac tower updaitable. below some data of a possible mac i am thinking of.

How much more RAM memory can I put on, etc to make it smoother for the HDV edit with FCP?

To edit SD, that should work fine...but for HDV, it is recommended to have at least 2.0 GHz, 2 GB of RAM, and a decent graphics card. Anything above HDV (DVCPRO HD, XDCAM, etc.) you should probably have at least 2.5GHz, 2 GB of RAM, and one damn good graphics card.

If your concerned about price, take a look at some of Apple's refurbished computers. They're basically like new. I know a guy who lives by them...Apple puts great care when the refurbish a computer, so your gonna get a new quality computer for a little less money. iMacs will handle FCS as well (though not as expandable).

The GFX card isn't used very much by FCP although when you are talking about Color or Motion the GFX card becomes more important. DVCPro HD is actually easier for a computer to handle than HDV or XDCAM HD because DVCPro HD is less compressed.

A G5 tower is a very big dead end and should be considered a 'throw away' purchase, IMO. Many 3rd party hardware and software providers no longer support the G5 and there are functions in FCS that are Intel only as well.
