What does it mean when you import some QT files into FCP, and you get a warning that "the following files are not optimized for FCP. It is strongly recommended that you try recapturing or use Media Manager to improve performance for multi-stream playback." (Or words to that effect.)

They'e in a format that may not playback at full speed or don't match your sequence settings.
(I.e. bringing in a different codec or frame rate from your sequnce which is probably DV format)
If that's the case it may need to 'render' after even basic edit changes.
If you're editing DV it's best to capture as normal DV format.
