FCP + Varicam + HPM-100 issues.

My company recently purchased an HPM-100. For those of you who don't know what it is, is basically a portable P2 recoder-briefcase-looking-thing. We've used it a couple of times in conjunction with a Varicam (running at 23.98 simulation). The problem I'm having is that this briefcase can only record at 59.94 fps shell when it's in 720p mode and NOTHING else. no options in 720P. Which, I personally think is a joke considering the techology to record in PN is already built into their [panasonic] P2 cameras. Thus leaving only 17min per 16GB P2 card (as opposed to 42min in 24Pn). So I either get $5000 worth of P2 cards, or upgrade to the HPM-110 (+$2000) and buy that stupid AVC card for 24Pn recording (+$3000). Not very good options. My question to you guys is.. are there any options in post to convert this 59.94 MXF footage to 23.98psf or PN or whatever. Using either Final Cut or Compressor or any third party software, while retaining timecode data. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Yes, you should easily be able to import the footage into FCP and tell it to "remove duplicate frames" and it'll conform your footage to 24p.

I just tried your suggestion, and I got the same results. I believe the MXF data is flagged as 59.94 over 59.94, as opposed to 24p over 29.97 or 59.94. I think final cut is seeing 60 unique frames per second. Any other suggestions? Thanks Barry!
