FCP to VHS!? - say what!?

Hello All,

I'm wanting to submit my recent film to a BBC competition, but they want a copy on no less than... vhs.

I'm gonna have to ask my Grandpa how to use one.

But I thought I'd ask you guys too. If I print my film to tape from FCP (using the DVX) and then play it into the video machine, the aspect ratio is incorrect, (because it's filmed in Anamorphic)

Is the only solution to hook a DVD player (with a DVD of my film in it) to a VHS player and record onto a blank video that way?

- seems like an arse.

Any ideas would be loved all round.

Create a "4x3" sequence. Make all of your clips have an aspect ratio of -33.3, but the clips should still be flagged as anamorphic (you might have to play with that exact #). Then you'll have a sequence with a letterbox image. You could then dump that to your video out and take it to your VHS.

Otherwise, if you want a hardware solution, there's a company called Miranda that offers a host of converter solutions. For this type of job you'd like want the picoLink Arc device. Check it out at Miranda.
