FCP to DVDSP, Keep Split Audio

Need to create a DVD with split audio. Want the left channel to have dialogue and voice over and the right channel to to have SFX and the Temp Music. In FCP and going out to tape, this is not a problem. But how to keep it split mono when authoring a DVD? I've tried using Compressor and making sure it said mono channels, but the authored DVDs are still coming out stereo. Anyone know how I can make this work?

cheers.

Well it can be stereo with discrete mixing but you cannot put dual mono pairs onto DVD- not part of the spec.

Well if the file itself is stereo okay, but is there a way during the creation of the AIFF/AC3 whatever, to maintain the split? There used to be like a surround sound application with an older release of FCP. You could pick and chose what audio went where quite easily. The result was an AC3 file I believe (its been a long time though). In 5 though I can't see this application in my Application folder anymore (forget the name). I am guessing its now part of something else, but can't track it down.

cheers.

Apack! Thanks man. But can't find it anywhere on any of the systems here at the office. Seems like its been merged with something else for FCP 5 (Soundtrack Pro maybe?). Asked around here with some of the other productions though and seems like if I go straight FCP to DVDSP and skip compressor it will work cleanly. Guess there's some setting in Compressor I haven't found or have set wrong and hence my previous failed attempts. Its for an audio house, so the reduced settings/abilities of DVDSP's encoding won't really matter anyway. But if anyone does know where Apack went I'd be interested to know.

cheers.

A Pack is folded into Compressor. The way you would do it would be to create a stereo AIF with the channels panned as you want them. Then convert to AC3 stereo. It should sound discrete if it's mixed that way in FCP. Make sure to use the panning controls if FCP.
