FCP to Blu-ray

I just bought an external Blu-ray burner (LaCie d2 Blu-ray Drive). It comes with Toast 8.

I will be using it on my G5 with Final Cut Pro and footage shot on my Sony EX1.

I plan on making Blu-ray videos that will play on my playstation 3 and other blu-ray consumer players.

It arrives next week.

In the meantime, how should I prepare my HD footage for Toast? I have some videos that are 720p and others that are 1080p (does that make a difference?). I guess I am asking what types of files will Toast work with and how do I make them (do I use compressor -- which settings)?

Thanks!

I've been using Toast and an external drive to make Blu-Ray discs as well. I use Adobe Encore to author my discs and then Toast burns them. With Encore CS4 I think you can burn directly without Toast. I export my footage to HD MPEG2 files with Compressor and import those into Encore. Encore can do the encoding but I prefer to set it up with Compressor instead.

If you'd like skip the whole DVD authoring thing and let Toast do all the work then you can just drag any MOV file into it and choose from a Blu-Ray menu look. Toast will transcode the files for you with limited adjustability. It will not take accept the .MP4 files that the camera makes.. so you'll have to convert them to MOV with XDCAM Transfer.

It will take awhile to render and burn I've had nice results.

Hope that helps.
