FCP to AFTER EFFECTS Import/Export and Back Again

Hi-

I shot a music video on DVX-100a in 24p (not advanced) edited it in FCP at 29.97. Now I want to export part of it so I can do some work on it in After Efffects, then export those clips from After Effects to be used back in the FCP timeline.

Then Export that finished project and take it back into After Effects for final color correction before output.

So far when I export clips from FCP as DV-NTSC quicktimes at highest res, when I open them in FCP it says they are now 23.976 with 3:2 Pulldown added. and they look like crap in either a 23.976 or a 29.97 After Effects Time Line. They also give me a lot of strange timing problems when trying to edit them?

I just want to stay 29.97 all the way across the board on this project and keep it simple.

ANY RECOMMENDATIONS for output/input settings from/to FCP and After Effects would be VERY helpful.

Thanks!

If you wanted to stay 29.97, why did you shoot in 24p?

If you export from only the parts you want from FCP, and are exporting them as a Quicktime with the Animation codec at 100 quality, and are exporting them at 29.97, unless you tell After Effects to interperet them as 23.97, it shouldn't. If it is, simply right click on the footage in the project window, go to "interpret footage", and make sure it is 29.97. Then create a new composition accordingly.

If you shot it in 24p, you should be working in a 24p timeline, and export to After Effects as 23.976 progrssive.

FCP uses YUV color space and AE uses RGB color so you will have to convert color space every time you change software.

24p is 29.97 isn't it?

24p is 29.97 isn't it?

Isn't 24p nativly 29.97? I've never seen the advantage of shooting 24a and then removing the pull down if you're outputting to video at the end of the day. Is there one?

Still have the problem...Not sure what's going on. My FCP project is 29.97 I output it using regular quicktime settings then when I open it in After Effects it says 23.976 with 3:2 pulldown removal when i inspect it in the project window..,

I haven't noticed any problems with the color space...? I haven't told it to be RGB or anything. Should I be noticing problems?

If you look at the same frame from the original video in fcp and compare it to the video bought in from after effecs you will notice a slight luma shift between the clips put them side by side (you may have to render first in fcp). You WILL notice it trust me.
