FCP Text issues

i've noticed this for a while and thought I'd bring up my issues here for suggestions and corrections

Adding text in Final Cut is a hassle , at least the way i'm doing it, here are my issues:

1) Can I scroll through text and get a preview of each one rather than selecting one by one from the drop down list?

2) Scaling text, either through adding keyframes to text size or in the motion tab results in a staggered grow/shrink that no one, ever, in the history or editing would ever want. Sometimes, with Boris this doesn't happen, sometimes it does. Why is this?

3) Why do some transitions not work with text?

I haven't stumbled on any answers to these questions, rather the solutions usually given are use After Effects or photoshop - seriously?

1) I'm not sure I understand this question. You mean see an example of each of the different text generator effects?

2) I have noticed this often when watching a preview in the canvas, but after rendering I have never have the staggering effect. Are you seeing this effect after rendering?

3) No idea - have never experienced this. What transitions are not working? also, which version of FCP are you using?

It took me a long, long time to come to terms with the fact the text generation in FCP just plain sucks. It sucks, and it doesn't seem like they care about this at all. You have Motion, After Effects, Live Type, Photoshop, and a a host of other tools out there - I would suggest getting good at one of those. I know it sounds like a terrible answer, but after 8 years of FCP, I have come to accept it and I use After Effects and Photoshop for pretty much all of my titling.

my.02 o this.. I look to FCP and use it for editing only. All other effects i need whether that be motion, effects etc are done in AE. I too complained about your same issues and just learned to use AE and PS with FCP. I sleep a little better now. FCP is a strong editing system in my opinion and use only for that. If i need effects, cool titles i turn to PS and AE.

i usually use stibs text.
gives you a bit more control.

as far as the scaling, i would make your largest size as the font and scale down
(i.e. keyframe using motion keyframes/not the font's size keyframe)
