FCP system

So if I were to get a new Mac to run FCP on what would you FCP users recommend with both desktop and laptop without going over $4k?
What should I be wary of also in a new system? This question may not apply to Macs like it does PCs.

Rob a bank.... But in all seriousness you could get a Mac Book and an IMac for that but both are kinda underpowered for heavy duty editorial. I'd spend it on a top of the line MacBook Pro and some firewire 800 drives. Not too mention you need $1400 for FCP assuming you were asking for a legit system. That will do the trick.

Hi Noah, I'm hoping to be able to to get one or the other and be able to use a switcher to use my keyboard, monitors and mouse from my PC so I can still use avid. I would love to get a laptop but want to make sure I can handle a feature length project also. I no nothing about Macs or whats needed to be able to view the edits on an external HD monitor. I have been reading about the AJA cards but is that something I can do without?
