FCP Studio and DVCPRO HD... I'm new to this!

Hi All,

I used to edit on Vegas all the time, but now my new HVX and DVCPRO HD footage is not supported by Sony, so I made the plunge and bought a MacBook Pro, and I'm trying to cut together my first new HD reel on it.

But first...what should my timeline settings be? I'm mixing some DVCPRO 1080i/24P footage from the HVX with 720pn footage from the HVX, and even throwing in some older SD Footage that is 24P and 24PA from my DVX.

Is there a simple way I can set up a project and mix all these formats easily?

Ummm....that is a lot of different footage shot at a lot of different resolutions and framerates. Your main problem is using footage that is shot both in 24P and 24PA. I have two suggestions:

1) Use Cinema Tools to convert all the footage into a standardized resolution and framerate (probably 480/23.98fps since that is your lowest common denominator) in which case you would then set your sequence as DV NTSC - 23.98.

2) You could try using a DV NTSC - 24 timeline and seeing if the DVCPRO 1080i/24p & 720pN footage imports directly into it. Normally it resizes itself accordingly in an NTSC timeline. But then you would still have a problem with the 24PA footage.

Hope that somewhat helps you get a start.
