FCP slowing to a crawl

Hello all, I know this is a shot in the dark-

Does anyone have any ideas why my FCP system will slowdown and show only about 4 fps and freeze the firewire out? I'm using a dual 2.5 G5 with 2Gig of Ram, dedicated internal video drive. Once it starts, any project does the same thing. Restarting doesn't always cure the issue.

When I look at the activity monitor it shows FCP using 136% !!

Any ideas?

In FCP, go to System Settings>Memory&Cache. Make sure Memory usage of Application is no more than 90 percent, and still cache not more than what's left over.

Try this also:

Restart computer. While it is restarting hold down the 'shift' key. Keep holding while the spinning gear is on screen. Once restarted, login to safe mode.

Repair disk permissions.

Restart the computer.

I do this every week (resets ram cache and repairs incorrect permissions - I very rarely get the SBBofD.
