FCP single track audio to Soundtrack, then back to multiple clips

I've got a single movie clip/audio file, "being passed 2" which has been chopped into little clips up to remove uhhhms, ahhhs, etc.

Now I send one of those clips into a Soundtrack Audio File Project, make an edit to the whole file (by not selecting, "use referenced media only"), then bring it back into FCP.

Ideally all those other little clips in FCP should update with the underlying changes -- but they don't.

Is there anyway of forcing the other clips to use "being passed 2 (sent)"?

I'm using Final Cut 6.0.5, Soundtrack 2.0.2
