fcp - screen turns green and pink and images duplicate and distort.

hi

so i'm having this weird issue with fcp. i'm editing some canon 5d and canon xf100 footage. i have some jpg images from the client and it seems like whenever i adjust the opacity, or sometimes other adjustments, the screen goes all pink and green and the images, both graphics and footage, get all distorted.

when i render them they are fine again but as soon as i make any adjustments, they distort again. and now i can't render some clips
here is a screen shot of what it looks like. any idea?

Try opening them in Photoshop and re-exporting as TIFs or PNGs then reimport into your sequence.

Also make sure you use an RGB color space and not CMYK.

yeah, i've had trouble with Jps before. i got the client to send .png, but same thing happening. frustrating, i've been trying to solve and work around for 2 days

here's a pic that shows it a little more clearly. and when i just resize the canvas, not even touching the timeline, it changes.
