FCP + RED + 5DM2 + Slow Motion question

im about to start a new project and wanted to get some advice about workflow.

the project is a music video shot on RED & the Canon Mark II.

the audio playback was sped up 25% with the intention of slowing down
the footage to give a 'dreamy' look....

everything is pro res 30p> but now i have to figure out how to
get the slow motion....

some of my thoughts/hurdels are:

1. AE doesnt seem to support ProRes
2. motion's optical flow is super render intensive
3. do i just cut the performance all fast & slow the master?

would love to hear any thoughts/feedback
thanks!

if you shot 30p then conform the video to 23.976 in Cinema Tools and edit on a 23.976 timeline (aka 24p). that should make it match up with the correct audio.

do this before editing anything

hmm...would the conversion from 30 to 24 match the audio?

ive read up on a bunch of internet articles and discussed this with the director.
i think we go with this workflow>

1. Edit 30P Prores > use FCP slowmotion as temp slomotion
2. after lock, media manange the whole project
3. re-batch media using optical flow

big boss, does going from 30 to 24 equal a 25% speed drop?

thanks for your input!

if you did playback at 125% speed of the source audio, yes conforming 30p>24p should match up.

with the workflow you're describing, you end up with a 30p at the end that has slow motion done with interpolation. my workflow gives you a 24p output with all the slowdown done in camera.

so you need to ask yourself what you want at the end... do you want a 30p output or a 24p output?

ahh...ok..that makes sense.
thanks for explaining.

the director is ok with a 30p master.

now im trying to figure out which would yield a better result:
1. optical flow (motion compensation) in compressor
or
2. using telestream epidsode software

thanks again for the insight!
