FCP Quicktime to Premiere

Got a bunch of Quicktime FCP files and need to get these suckers in Premiere CS4. Is there something special I need to do?

Thanks

It's probably Apple ProRes in which case you're also screwed. Premiere just doesn't support this.

It works fine in PP CS4 if you have quicktime installed, and the prores decoder for pc installed (free download from apple)

The one that is problematic, as mentioned earlier, is AIC

From what I understand Prores decoder is for playback only, not sure if Premiere will support that.

Correct, you cannot encode to prores, but decoding is sufficient for editing, provided you export in some other format. I edited a project with prores clips yesterday on the PC with PP CS4

That's right. I color graded a project that was exported 1080p QT ProRes, and you can import the prores QT file into premiere but there is no way to export back to Prores with premiere. You have to choose a different codec. This was my dilemna....the 90 minute film was 75gb or so originally. If I exported to uncompressed....it was too ridiculously huge to be efficient. Other codecs either looked like poop (cinepak) or were way to compressed (like h.264). I finally...after extensive testing for render time/final quality/file size, I determined that exporting to QT using the JPEGa codec was the best choice. I could barely tell the difference between this and the Prores file, and it came out to like 85gb.

I hope that helps.
