Hi,

I'm having an impossible time trying to export my 1080/50 project to a quicktime DV format from FCP.

No matter what I do I lose the 16/9 format. I did try and create a new FCP project in Quicktime DV Pal (i'm working in Pal)...and then dropping a full size 1080 file into that...this worked..but the file seems to be darker..strang. Anyone know how to do this conversion in one shot, and not lose too much quality?

thanks

Apple Pro Training Series; Compressor Quick-Reference Guide

It's a great little book! Good info, will give novice and experienced pros a great insite to understanding the use Compressor to it's fullest. And for around $20, you just can't beat it. Very good book. Recommend it to all FCS users.

Covers conversions from NTSC to PAL, HD to SD, 24p DVD, format for web, etc. I can't say enough about it. Here's a link to it on Books-A-Million:

What version of FCP are you using? What is the purpose of this DV QT file you want to make (is it going to be used in another FCP system, is it for delivery to a client, etc.,)? How have you tried to make a QT file currently (Export->QT Movie, Export-QT Conversion, etc.,)?

By lose the 16:9 format do you mean that you get an anamorphic 4:3 image (everything looks tall and then)? If so, and the file is for use in another FCP project you can just import the file into the other FCP system and in the browser "anamorphic" column for the clip and FCP will display the clip in 16:9 instead of 4:3.

Getting a bit more info about what you've tried already and what your end goal is will us give you the best advice. Anyway you slice it though you are gonna lose a ton of quality going from HDV 1080i down to DV.

Hi, thanks for your reply.
I'm reducing it to export to mini DV. I need to match a project with TV commercials that are all in Pal DV format 720 576.
