FCP Problems

So im just getting into Mac for editing. So right now i have a MBP with 2gb ram and FCS2. I tried to SmoothCam a piece of footage last night and the filter wont apply to the clip. I tried dragging it to the timeline and to the viewer window and it wont apply. I also noticed that depending on what i select, the FX plug in will go to a bold state what does that mean?? Sorry im new to FCP, so if its a stoopis wuestion, go ahead and burn me.

Also I cant get the media manager to cut the clips down...i select the sequence and pull up media manager...and it wont size the clips down...dont know what the hell im doing wrong here....

Try exporting just the part you want to smoothcam to a new QuickTime movie- not reference. Then import and try it on that.

Yeha i found out how to do it

Export the clip to Shake and it will make a new shake file then you can apply the SmoothCam filter to it. Thx for the thoughts.
