FCP on Powerbook G4

I am trying to edit uncompressed video on my powerbook G4.
I am set up to use external drives for the edits and have upgraded to 2 gigs ram on the PB.
The only issue is capturing the source footage in 10 bit uncompressed.

Does anyone know about the aja Kona IO LA and or IO LD?
Will these interface with my laptop in order for me to import uncompressed footage from my HVX?
When I tried to import footage strait from HVX into PB it drops frames constantly if I am importing in 10 bit uncompressed. (Fine when I import DV NTSC 48k)

I appreciate any input on the AJA products.

LOL

What recording medium did you use for the HVX? P2? Firestore? You will not need an AJA card for this, importing from the HVX can all be done without a capture device.

What you need are hard drives capable of handling 10-bit uncompressed footage. That all but eliminates firewire drives. While I have had success using a G-Raid with 10-bit uncompressed (FW800 connection, two hard drives RAIDED) I had only one layer of 10-bit and that is the max that drive can handle.

What you really need is a SATA Raid. And in order to get that working with a powerbook, you need a PCMCIA SATA adapter. Firmtek sells both the card and a SATA RAID. www.firmtek.com.

Thanks for the input. I will look into the SATA Raid.
This particular project was shot DV on tape.

I actually don't have a method of importing from the p2 card at present.
The version of FCP I am using was before the upgrade to the P2 device.

On that note does anyone know of a plugin that will allow older versions of FCP to import from a p2 device?

Thanks.
