FCP, MBP, & Portable HD

Hello all!

So I just got a new 15" MBP. I'm going to be shooting in some situations where an ideal situation would be to capture from my XH A1 via Firewire using HDV codec directly to my new MBP through FCS2 (man, that sentence had a lot of abbreviations).

Obviously, don't want to capture to system drive. There will be situations where I'm shooting and power will not be available to me, so an external hard drive that runs off of laptop power is the goal. Over at Other World Computing, they have external drives that can run off laptop power that can interface either FW400 or 800. My thought is this - by an Express Card to get another couple of FW800 ports. Run the XH A1 into the native FW800 port (yes, I know I need a special cord for that, shouldn't be a problem) doing a "Capture Now" in Final Cut using the HDV codec, and hook one of these:

into an FW800 port on the expresscard on the MPB, and use that drive as the Capture Scratch.

Question: in this scenario, am I going to run into any problems going with a 5400 RPM drive instead of a 7200 RPM drive? I don't THINK so, but I'd prefer to ask the experts to be on the safe side.

ive never had a problem capturing DVCPro HD to an external 5400 rpm USB drive, so a FW800 should be able to handle, you will want to experiment first.

as far as connecting the Canon to the computer via FW800, that seems a little unneccessary. HDV is around 25Mbit per second and FW800 is 800Mbit per second, so i think FW400 can handle it just fine.
