FCP, Magic Bullet, and After Effects

Blaine

Mr. Hollywood
I am experiencing a weird problem. I'm running FCP 5.0.4. Several months ago I loaded Magic Bullet and placed it in the plugins folder. It worked fine when I used it. Recently, I loaded After Effects 6.5 for the Mac. Now when I open FCP I get a message that MB plugins are missing (Title 3D, also). When I look in the plugins folder I see my plugins but now they carry an AE logo. When I look at them with GetInfo I see it wants to open them with Adobe After Effects 6.5 -noui. I would like to get them back to FCP plugins but I don't know how.

I tried reinstalling from my disk but they came in as AE plugins.

Does anyone know how I can correct this?

I did a system update to 10.4.6 recently but everything was working fine. It wasn't until I installed AE four days ago that things change.

Repaired Permissions, trashed prefs, reinstalled Magic Bullet...same thing.

I guess it'll be time to do a reinstall in FCP. I'm in no hurry to do that, though. :furious3: Magic Bullet isn't that important to me.

Did you recently run system update? this may be the problem. try re-installing the most recent update but using the FULL version
10.4.6 FULL install http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1046comboforppc.html,

Follow Sink's link, and do the full install. If you updated from the Software Update, it deletes a file that you need - but the full update doesn't. I ran into this problem earlier with my Re:vision FX plug-ins - and it screwed up my MB plug-ins as well. They have their explanation for it at:

Okay, I followed the link, downloaded the MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.6PCC and installed that. I looked at the MB plugins and they were still AE icons, so I deleated them and reinstalled Magic Bullet. Same thing, still AE. But I opened FCP and tried out the MB plugins and they seem to be working.

So thanks got out to your guys. Thanks for taking the time to help me out. Sink, sorry, I jumped to conclusions that I had already done what you suggested until I read pheboglobi's post.

Everything seems to be working now, even though the MB icons are still AE icons. pheboglobi, does that jive with what you see on your system?

if they are working, there isnt a problem. Don't worry about, I thought it was funny that you didnt believe me.. and FYI they are AE plugins! :) MB was originally only the Suite and only for AE.

It wasn't that I didn't believe you, I just thought I had loaded the right upgrade, it was the automatic software update so I assumed it was the full upgrade. The second post kind of clicked where I missed it on your post. Anyway, everything's working fine thanks to you guys...

Yeah, same thing over here. OS X just reads the file as belonging to AE and gives it the default icon - nothing to worry about.
