FCP keeps crashing on SAVE PROJECT attempts

Everytime I go to save my project FCP crashes! I just spent a great deal of time keyframing some clips to fly across the screen and do other stuff and I was done for the time being and clicked save and the little wheel didnt even spin, FCP just shut down completely! Now I did go into my AUTO SAVE VAULTS FOLDER and clicked on a project file there where I was able to go back to a previous save and start over from there. Again, I went to save and FCP crashed. In my settings I thnk I have it set to save as many as 20 copies per project. I checked my folders and I was at 20 copies saved. I proceeded to delete all but the files I had worked on today 1/13/06. Clicked on the last file that I saved earlier today thinking everything should be cool now. Went to save my project and it CRASHED AGAIN!!!!!

My hard drive is not maxed out, I just recently upgraded my memory from 1.5gigs to 3.5gigs.

I have yet to restart my computer after I emptied the trash can. If that don't work then I am not sure what to do but I can't continue working on my project until I get FCP to start saving my work again.
 
Are you just using Save? Have you tried Save As... and given it a new name? I like to save the project with a new name each time I do some kind of major work on it. That way I always have the original to go back to AND it helps to keep things from getting "buggy."
 
You could try using the media mover save... which might consoladte your files and might work better. But usually a restart fixes these sorts of problems.
 
Trash your preferences and constantly save different updates of the same project for example I use PROJECT NAME,DATE,TIME. So you have eg. Corporate video, 12/06/05, 11.15. FCP does not like it when you repeatedly save a project with the same name again and again it can cause corrupted files which is what it sounds like in your case. And as for trashing your prefs look up the tutorial here.

Thanks that was some very good tips to know. I did do a restart and it started saving again. I will change how I save projects from now on! Thanks again!

What is the Media Mover Save? I have not heard of anything like that that would consolidate files.
