FCP, iWeb and streaming video.

jeez, it's been awhile since I've been on the boards. Lot's of new people. Cool.

Anyway, I have a question. How do I make a clip start on it's own? I want people to click on a link on my site and have a window open up and the video start (once it loads up enough). Currently, you need to push the play button. I edit in FCP and use iWeb for my site. I output both for streaming (med) and broadband (med) and neither one starts on it's own.

Any thoughts?

Embedded + Autoplay

Embedded + Autoplay

On the road so I don't have access to all my materials on this here. However, its basically just a setting in your html code. There is an autoplay feature for an embedded video (its either on or true, I forget though). If you frequent any html boards or such I reckon someone one of those would be able to assist quite easily (or just try google for the embedded tag and you might be able to solve it yourself).

cheers.

Thanks. I will check that out. The main challenge is that, using iWeb, I don't know jack about html. I just drag and drop the video file on to the page and publish it like that. I will look into an html board.

If iWeb has an 'html view' mode that will allow you to access the code it shouldn't be too bad. Again it kind of depends how it inserts the video exactly from the drag and drop, but if it creates an 'embed' tag, then in HTML mode, it would hopefully include the 'autostart' option. If you see it in there, just change it from whatever it is to autostart=true.

Again, not sure how exactly iWeb works, but if it has that option already in there (but say just set to false), then it'd be a quick and easy edit to make it work. Otherwise, yes definitely go to the html forums (hopefully finding someone who is iWeb savy).

cheers.

I found an iWeb forum, and they are walking my lame ass through it.

Thanks for the help. I'll post the results if I get it figured out in case anyone else runs into this.

iWeb and Aperture (read as Apple's instant canned web pages for dummys) pretty much require one to edit in an external application. They come in handy to slap together some web pages really quick- but any fine tuning is much better done in an editor like Dreamweaver. Getting a QT or flash movie to work in iWeb is probably gonna be a pain in the butt as they're a little messy.

Are these quicktime movies? There's an embed command, and it requires some copy and pasting. I really really wish Apple would make this easier. When a QT movie is inserted into a web page it should behave just like a jpeg, with a few parameters to tweak, but expecting people to figure out how to get the embed code to work is too much for Joe sixpack.

Sounds like you found help. If not I can toss up some sample code later. There's all kinds of info out there on this, but you have to google. It's not hard, but it's not as simple as it should be either.

I have it squared away at the moment. I was able to open the.js files in text edit and change the parameters for the autostart command.

I have had a few people tell me they have had problems viewing viseo clips on my site, but not many. iWeb is simple, which is why I use it. I'll outgrow it eventually, but for now it does the trick.

I'm in Aurora CO, btw.
