FCP issues..

Ok, I am going a little nutty... Final Cut is crashing on me all the time for no apparent reason.

I am debating wether or not to wipe my system and do a re-install...

It crashes on me whenever I do something quick.. like lets say, double click on clip in the browser when the focus was on the timeline.. stupid stuff like that...I dunno if it is my combo of FCP and my OS version or what..

anyone else had this problem? I makes working in the program a nightmare... saving every few min... annoying as hell.. especially when your working on a huge project..

I am running Mac OS 10.3.5 with 1GB of Ram.. on my Quiksilver Dual 1Ghz G4..

I have heard rumors that this model of G4 has issues running several apple programs properly... any truth to that?

insight anyone? Should I wipe then update to 10.3.6?

Re: FCP issues..

I cut with the the same tower witha bit more ram 1.5. The only time my system gets a bit funky is like Pooh said I have not trashed the prefs, or a media drive is a bit too full. You want to leave between 10 to 5 percent of space on the drive empty. Another silly thought is to keep all media, and render files off your main system drive. In fact it helps to have media on one frive, and render files on another. Hope it all works out.

Re: FCP issues..

The answer is to upgrade to 10.3.6

10.3.5 was a bit erratic when it came to FCP, and the new patch fixed MOST of those issues. When I had 10.3.5, I had to downgrade to 10.3.4 to get FCP working again. Definitely that patch....

had the same problem for number of times. over and over.

the problem went away when I realized FCP was working with very little harddrive space. so that might have been it. and how organized your projects files are- as well as captured and rendered-etc.
for example- make sure you don't have capture folders within capture folders and such.

Re: FCP issues..

I would be cautious of upgrading to 10.3.6. The Viewer and Canvas will be blurry during playback if you have a nVidia card. This is a known problem with the video drivers in 10.3.6

Indeed, with my new Imac, and osx 3.6 , I have blurry playback. Is there a hope of a new driver coming out? or another way to improve the blurryness?

People have tried many things but never get rid of it completely. I believe the only way to fix it is new drivers. Hopefully Apple will release a fix in the next upgrade.
