FCP irritation

I'm editing and when I go to export the footage, out of the blue it says that file :Sequence 1-FIN-0000004c" cannot be found...

Why does it do this?

It makes e so mad because it happens all the time.

Just checked my render files folder and noticed that this file isn't there. Anyway to track it down or recreate it?

I was trying to do that but when I hit apple/R it was just flashing my screen..... Ifigured it was a bug so I restarted FCP and it works now. Is it just me or is FCP buggy with OSX 10.4.4?

I haven't noticed any problems since updating to 10.4.4

There should be at least one video or audio clip selected (highlightened) to perform *apple/R* render. If you wanna render the entire sequence, you can use *option/R* render. However, it's possible for FCP not do anything but flash if render setting (under sequence menu) is not set-up as desired.

I have notied a slight quirkness with 10.4.4, I have had the same issues you mentioned..media offline.. Make sure you label everything really well subclips, sequence, etc. it make it easier to locate those clips.

thanks for the link capt.

Hey does rendering your timeline eat away some of your resolution in picture quality?

For some reason I keep thinking that everytime I render I'm hurting my image. lol

Well, yes and no. FCP renders from scratch every time. Therefore you will loose some quality, (unless uncompressed) as the footage has to be recompressed. However, rerendering many times makes no difference, like I said, it starts from scratch each time.

Be warned though, some NLE, (I know some Avids do this) render using the previous render files in order to speed things up. You can then loose a lot of quality.

Just wanted to add that you loose the most quality by playing with color, hue, and camma correction. It's just something we need to sacrifice when playing with color sampling. Also, your video could loose its quality severely when another color correction is performed after a color correction.

you should also try trashing your preferences in FCp that clears up a lot of issues but resets all settings to default.

Hold on folks, if this is the same problem I had, then there is an easy fix. If you start your FCP on one day and then the clock strikes midnight, there is some sort of setting that tells FCP to trash some of your old saved backup scratch files (not the right word, but hopefully you know what I mean). So then when you go to export, you get that error message.

To fix this, you simply need to exit out of FCP, clear your trash on your Mac, then start FCP again. And PRESTO! It should be all better.

This is assuming it is the same problem that I had.

This is easy to fix. Just apple c (copy) the project (on the timeline) and open up a new sequence, then just paste it.
