FCP Import FLV?

Anyone know how to get an FLV file into FCP? I've found lots of information about how to export but nothing on importing them. I've just been given the horrific request to capture YouTube videos (thankfully only for temp purposes) so trying to figure out how to deal with the request. Thanks in advance.

cheers.

Hmmm.... since the youtube compression is already horrid, you may try one of those "capture what's playing on your screen/convert to mpg" programs. I've used one or two before, their usually free, and if you find one you can personalize, you can get pretty good results (low to null compression).

Just an idea...

you can do a combination of VideoDL to grab the FLV and then iSquint to convert it to MP4... this will get the video into FCP, but isn't an easily editable codec. You could use quicktime pro or MPEGstreamclip or something to convert it to DV.

Snapz Pro X is the app i use to capture off the screen. It comes mostly in handy to convert WMV stuff on the mac into editable formats when you have no other option.

YES i know flip for mac will convert, but without registration it watermarks, and im not paying for that product when i dont like its performance in the first place. :P

Its the best one by FAR. great screen grab utility too. Mainly what it is. But i use the video capture part of it for alot of things, including capturing tutorials for the software i work on. It captures audio from the computer as well as capturing from 1 to 30 frames per second.

Thanks rebus. Using that with Mozilla's Downloader plug-in seems to be a solid combination for getting it done. Perian's thing is great as I'm able to export to any desired codec and now we won't even have to worry about rendering (only have to deal with looking at a web video cut into the timeline, ugh).

Cheers.
