FCP 6 has suddenly stopped recognizing my hv-20. it tells me the device is not there. it worked for a few day but now, nothing. i shot some stuff in hdv-24 and i fear i may have changed a setting somewhere. or maybe changed something in fcp. i use this mostly as a playback deck for stuff from my A1. any help, hugely appreciated.

Do you have any other software that can talk to the deck? At least see if your Mac can still connect with it at all. One concern I would have is a potential blown firewire port.

And how about if you setup your system as an uncontrollable device? If you do that, and set the capture preset to match your tape/footage, hit play on the deck, does FCP at least see the image then? Then you'd at least know the signal is going through.

Cheers.

i was always able to get the camera to talk to fcp-3 on my old powerbook but not on my Quad-2.66 with fcp-6. today i tried this: turn camera off, plug 4pin into camera, plug 6-pin into computer, turn camera on, turn fcp on, suddenly it worked right. i have no idea why this made a difference, but it did. do you know?

FCP/Apple/The Firewire Port, one of the lot is finicky about communications. I will often actually power everything down. Hook it all up. Turn on the camera. Power up the computer. Then start up FCP and give it a go.

Cheers.
