FCP help, 24p and slo motion

I'm new to final cut pro, running fcp 5.4, does anyone know how to slow motion 24p, I captured everything into a standard timeline, I shot in 24p and when I try to slow motion the image, the quality of the clip is terrible. any help would be really appreciated! Thank you.

which timeline do I use when edit 24pa and 60i together and can I use advance pulldown for 24pa or just capture it straight 29.97 ....

I know this is cofusing...but want to put together some footage of 24pa with advance pulldown( keep the film looks and feel) with some footage 60i ( video look)...but i'm not sure which timeline to use........I try some 60i in 23.97 sequence but it doesn't work
