FCP HD or Cinema Tools to remove pulldown

HI, i'm a bit confused by the need to remove added frames:

If i capture the 24p source in FCP, check off the option to remove the frames in the capture settings (in FCP), is it redundant to do the reverse telecine in Cinema tools? So far, i have only captured the source and nothing else.

I see i have options to remove the added frames if i didnt during the capture. How can i tell if the pulldown has been removed? what do i look for that will confirm this? Is there a specific place that tells me how i captured it in case i THINK i did it one way but ACTUALLY did it another.

I recall also there was an option to select 'drop frame' or 'non-drop frame' and i may have selected 'drop frame'. i now know all 24p timecode is non-drop frame. but this confuses me..the TimeCode is non-drop but the footage can be different when the frames are added? so the timecode and source wont match? please help and clarify. How do I detect if there is a problem or not.

Lastly, regarding "downconverted" versions. Is this process of capturing and removing frames automatically 'downconverting' or is there another process for the offline edit. Or, is it possible to work without downconverting if there is less than 15 hours of footage in one project.

Anyone who might help me I really thank you. I feel close to understanding,,,, but....

Re: FCP HD or Cinema Tools to remove pulldown

24p: Edit as is in a 29.97 timeline
or
Remove 3:2 pulldown (telecine) using CinemaTools. FCP won't do it. Read the Cinema Tools manual. Search for reverse telecine.
24p involves not just duplicated frames but mix of frames as interlaced fields.

24pa: This can be removed by FCP on the fly (advanced pulldown 2:3:3:2) when captured since it's not dealing with mixed fields, it's just dropping frames.
If you don't remove when captured you can remove it by selecting the clips and going to Tools >Remove Pulldown

Non-drop frame is the timecode for 24p/24pa. Selecting this in the Device Control settings. This way the timecode you enter in the logs will be ok and capture correctly.

I wouldn't consider 24pa removal to be downconverting or even 24p. If you start with true 60i then you'd be converting.
