FCP HD editing 24p f5: g4 or g5?

I've heard that for some reason FCP actually renders faster on the old g4 dual 1.42 towers vs. the g5 for some reason... Is this true and if so, is it still true for the new HD? I need a tower to edit now and would of course love to get the g4 (much cheaper) but if it is indeed not faster anymore, i will take the plunge, any advice appreciated!

The dual 1.42 is only faster versus the single 1.6 G5. Now that the powermacs are dual, I would highly reccomend one of those because they will make your editing life much, much easier and faster.
