Weird problem with my HD deck.

I'll be capturing, and it will work out, and then all of a sudden, when I hit command 8 to get back in the capture window, sometimes FCP closes on me.

Sometimes when I capture, and I get out of the capture window, and then I go back IN, it won't recognize the device:

So then I just restart FCP and it recognizes it again, and I'm not unplugging or changing anything.

I'm using a SONY HD DECK, capturing SONY HD Z1U footage into FCP at 1080i60i Firewire

Any help? Or is this just a stupid glitch?

FCP and HDV decks are finicky in my experience. I think part of the problem is that the decks can send out both HDV and DV signals via FW so sometimes the deck isn't sending out a 'clear' signal so FCP gets confused. What I typically do is switch the deck from 'auto detect' to 'HDV' or 'DV' (depending on what format I'm using) and that usually helps. You just have to remember to switch it back if you switch formats.

Now I'm trying to print to tape, and it says that it's not supported..

My i Link is on, and my capture settings are fine, just Edit to Tape will not work!
 
Ok- I turned off the i-Link, and it worked! Thanks so much.

Next problem- The first six shows I'm editing are SD, the rest after that are HD...The problem is, is that each show will have an HD intro, (so the 6 SD shows will have HD intros)

Should I down convert the HD intro for the SD shows, and THEN print to tape? Or is there another way?
