FCP HD ? 5? (Newbie)

Hi. Sorry but a really basic question about FCP5.
A friend is going to lend me his MAC while away so I can try editing for the first time. I'm a little unsure of what the program actually is.

Is FCP5 the same as FCP HD?
When the program opens it says HD. But all my material is on mini DV so will it be compatible?
Any help?
 
FCP HD = FCP 4.5

Of course, your DV footage will be compatible - HD only means high-def support added over version 4
 
Ok. Thanks for that. Could you tell me what the main differences are between 4.5 & 5. (I'm a pal user if that matters)
 
So if your not using HD camera footage do you need FCP5?

I'm shooting on mini DV and it will be for my own small scale documentary type projects.
If I'm doing a pro job it will go through a professional edit suite/editor.
So 4.5 is fine yeah?
 
One of the best changes between 4.5 and 5.0 (well, not actually FCP but FCP Suite) was the sound processing capabilities of Soundtrack Pro.
 
I've been using FCP sinse version 1.0
I'm at 4.5 (FCP HD) now and feel no reason to go to 5.
Actually all YOU really need is Final Cut Express for DV unless you really do a lot of compositing.
