FCP Glitch?

Robbie Comeau

Como's back. back again
My DVX, 24p footage is just screwin with me. Captured correctly, and I'm editing in a proper timeline.

When I go to add some effects to a clip, the clip changes in and outs and it's not the clip I want!

When I go to export the timeline, some clips aren't the one's I edited in the timeline.

What's going on here?

Also, when I click and extend a clip in the timeline, instead of it showing the clip as it usually does, it shows ANOTHER part of the clip... (It's a 20 minute clip and I select the in and out points from the canvas, and also in the timeline to)

What I did was drop the 20 minute clip in the timeline and selected different parts from the whole 20 minute clip. I gathered around 30 pieces. So sometimes when I add an effect, or like I said, extend the clip..It'll show another clip from a different part of the file. Weird. And When I export using compressor, quicktime movie, quicktime conversion, the output is ok but in some areas of the movie, it's not the right edit/clip I selected.

Sounds like you may have dropped short pieces into the middle of longer ones without any cuts in the longer piece. So the longer "underneath" piece still behaves like it's contiguous when one end or the other gets trimmed - one end's edit affects the other. I've seen this sort of thing happen when doing it this way. The solution was to make sure all segments are physically cut apart from one another, rather than invisibly still connected together 'underneath' (or 'behind') others. Hope this helps.
