FCP Garbles HMC150 footage

Well... we've got garble.

I was shooting 720/24p to a 16GB Lexar Class 4 card, transcoded in FCP 6.0.5 to AIC.

Cam and cards are only about a week old. The glitch in this shot lasts about 8 frames or so, pixelates in and out.

Any ideas what happened anyone?

Haven't tried transcoding to ProRes... or popping SD back into camera to see if it appears on playback there. Will do it in the morning. Just frustrated this even happened period.

I would be very interested to know if it's o nthe original footage in the camera. In fact I'd go so far as to bet fifty bucks that it's not on the card, it's an FCP transcode issue.
 
I got the same thing recently, black garble bar instead of white. Was shooting 720p30.

I noticed the garble when I transcoded with FCP 6 to ProRes 422. However, in my earlier experiments with the footage in transcoding with Toast 9 to DVCPro HD, the garble did not show up.

Leaving me to conclude that this is a transcode issue. Try doing it again with the original AVCHD files.
 
It seems as though Apple actually does listen to the reports and do their best to jump on problems and fix them. Or at least they try.
 
They have a link right from FCP for filing feedback. When you encounter a problem like this, report it so they have the info they need to fix the bug please. That's the only way they'll know to fix it.

Luckily I was in agreement with you and didn't place the bet -- no mistake on the SD. I will file the feedback through FCP.

Until then, Toast 9 seems to be the way to go? I've heard DVCPROHD is a better bang for the encoding "buck" anyway.

Has anyone done intensive comparisons between transcoding to AIC vs. DVCPROHD720 vs. ProRes422? (Size and quality)

Hello....Anyone heard any feedback from Apple re: issues with FCP/ FCE and garble?
I noticed that when I log and transfer some clips(aprox 1 out of 15) there is a multi-coloured flash or green swath. When I view the footage through the cam, the distortions are not there...any ideas
