FCP force quiting

Every now and then if I move to fast in FC studio 2 i get the circle of death and get locked up and have to force quit. Then when I go to force quit the window goes away but it still says im in fcp. Then I have to restart my mac pro and it doesnt restart so I have to hit the power button. I have an 2.8 ghz 8 core mac pro running lepard with 10gb ram. In my opinion my imac performed allot better then this machine. I dont know if its a problem with lepard or a problem with fcp or a problem with everything.

every now and then meaning once a year, once month once a day?
I've had the same setup as you only with a quad 2.66 macpro in a year's time
I would say I have gotten the beachball of death twice tops wich is normal in a years time, could be your ram

what!!!!!! there is something wrong with your mac dude, my first thought was the ram, where did you buy it? is it apple ram or generic?

same with my 17 in mbp 2.33 twice a day freeze up. losing hard work drives me around the bend. just put in 4gb ram to see if it makes a difference.

you two really need to get your systems checked, this is not normal, the whole purpose behind buying a mac for post is the "stability" I cannot complaint mine has been nothing short of super stable in a year's time

have you repaired permisions and shift key on boot to clear the ram

try that

This is really frustrating. I ordered the ram through a certified apple dealer in my area. I am on good terms with the owners there so they give me some discounts and what not. I bought my mac pro there completely stock except with the geforce graphics card. I then had them seperatly order 4 2gb ram sticks for me. They came and I put them in. They were 667mhz so I returned them. Then I got the right stuff untill I brought it home installed it and noticed that it was 2 1gb and 2 2gb. I returned it again and then finaly got the right stuff. Leaving me with 10gb 800mhz ram. I believe the ram is from crucial. The only problem is that I have about 20 jobs coming up over the summer and cant afford to send my mac away to be repaired. Isn't there something I can do myself.

I think its the ram dude, I am a member of a very known and visited forum called
macrumors anyway you learn a lot about macs and I did my homework before I bought my mac and my 10gb of ram and the experts will tell you that buying ram from mac is stupid overpriced so the next best thing is to buy it from mac sales, they build ram to the exact mac specs, long story short everyone that knows what they are doing buys there plus its pretty cheap, my mac came with 2gb of ram and I bought 8 more gigs from them for about 300 bucks here is the link

I seriously think its your ram, that your mac is not playing nice with

Just got it serviced. My top ram riser card wasnt putting out the proper voltage. If anyone else is having this problem look into the riser cards.
