Fcp filters

Hey I was editing in FCP7 and selected a random filter, that was pretty cool. Then I notice how long I been using FCP and don't have the slightest idea what half the filters do. I only know about the Three Way CC and a few others. Does anybody know where I can get help or a list to learn about all the Filters in FCP???? I would really like the help.

Do you mean other than in the FCP7 user guide under "Video Filters Available in Final Cut Pro"?

Some of the things they include in these programs seem quite bizzare... I struggle to imagine when anybody would ever use them.

I was a FCP user for several years, before switching to PC and Vegas about two years ago, then to Premiere about a month ago. In all three programs I only ever used a few of the filters, mainly for CC.

I wouldn't worry about it too much if you don't use the other filters... many of them are a different means to achieve the same effect as something else. Others are just plain cheesy. The most important thing is to know what you want to create with the filter before you even open the filters folder, and then working towards that - rather than thinking "I need to do something cool with this clip" and randomly browsing through your filters for something you could use.

Adobe After Effects is about the only program I've used where most of the effects are actually useful.
