I'm doing something for my kids and want to put an effect type of text in the beginning. What I'd like to do is make it look like there is light coming from behind the text and maybe moving around behind it.

I think this can be done in FCP can't it?

thanks guys! :)

trying to play with it still and I realized how much of a freking newbie I am with FCP.... god this sucks! not FCP but trying to figure this **** out sucks.....

You need a plugin for that. I don't think that Boris Has it. Try opening a Boris Text generator and see if you can find anything. I usually do this kind of stuff in AE...

Check out LiveType (that came with FCP). Lots of title generating functions. Not sure if it covers that specific effect.
Also take a look in iMovie since they have a number of title effects. That functiosn probably not there but between the two you can come up with a wide variety of prebuilt title effects.

There is no lightning generator in FCP, nor in Livetype that I'm aware of. After Effects would do it in a snap. Maybe you could find a lightning animation (Jumpback) and buy it off the net.
Some places sell individual animation loops.

there's a lyvetipe preset effect that does something similar to what you describe. Finding it shouldn't be a problem.

yeah that's pretty much what I'd like to do! I've never used livetype so obviously I don't have it.... I'll have to surf around to see what it costs....

LiveType will do what you want, although it is very basic. Look under the effects tab under glow's. The only other way to do this in FCP is by using the TRAPCODE plugin called SHINE. It will give you the most control, and it works in FCP and in AE. (I think that it is only $30 bucks or something. Check out their web site for exact pricing. I bought it several years ago, and I remember it being affordable. It works great too!)

the effect you want is in livetype. It is a live font called spotlight. Way simple...........

That's right. Spotlight should give you what you want.

Go here:

http://www.apple.com/finalcutexpress/fonts.html#

click on the "Aa" and then scroll through the examples of the different livetype fonts to see what we mean. "Spotlight" is in there.

Livetype came for free with FCP4 as well as 5. When you create your text in Livetype you don't even have to render it. Just drag the project file into your timeline in FCP and it will key and render it for you.
