FCP editing rates and services

depends on the project and the client's budget that your working with. Under 4 hours I charge $100an hour for example. People/Clients don't realize how complex and time consuming editing a project can be. Whatever you decide to charge stick to that rate. I would also add that if the person/client wants a bunch of revisions done you should charge them extra unless it was your fault you had to do something over. I think you should be fine in the $50-100 an hour range. I am sure some people may charge more than that. I have other rates for editing too but I just gave you my lowest.

What I do on every project, is that I give a client a price up front. If they accept that price, I start working...When I think I created what it should be, I show it to them. There is ALWAYS something wrong with it...sometimes it's just a name or a title, sometimes it can be a little more complex (however, usually it is only a matter of adjusting, not starting all over again :) ).

Anyway, within the price that we've agreed on I have already included the option for the client that basically they can change whatever they want, without any extra charge. If they don't like the presentation at all, I start over from scratch (but like I said...). If however there are changes to be made after that, I will charge extra by the hour.

This tends to give (potential) clients a feeling that you know what you're doing (even if you don't) and they tend to trust you. It also can really speed up rounding up a project. I hate projects that keep gooing on and oooon and oooooooon over lousy stuff. "oooh could you please also change that?" If they know it is included to change things and it is free they will definitely use that space do so, but then it is all over after the second presentation. Which means you can cash in and work on other projects...No surprises for both parties and most of all, you have a client that has a piece of work he or she is happy with!

i primarily have experience with two kinds of clients -- DVD and EPK for motion pictures which i see editors charging from $400 to $700 a day plus bay rental, and trailers for motion pictures ranges from $700 to $1100 a day plus bay rental.
