Hi I shot a short out in the desert and I am having problems with one of my tapes.

It has glitches in it, so every now and then it like skips a beat. I know that I can not fix it, but I wanted to know some advice to get around it. I.E use filters, or effects to change the tone or what not. I am working on it now but running out of viable ideas.

the link below is a sample of what it is doing, I dont know why it is doing it, about half way through the tape its fine and all the other tapes from the day are fine.

look forward to your help

thanks

I don't think it's your tape. Notice that when it jumps, it actually jumps back in time by about a frame. A bad tape wouldn't do that. Seems more like a time code/capture problem. Does the same thing happen when you view it directly on playback (not through your computer but through your camera)? If it plays back clean in your camera, I'd try making a dub and then capturing that.

It does that when I play it back on my camera (dvx100) and through a deck at work. Its weird to me that it was really just on the first 10 minutes of the tape. It was the last tape out of 4 on the day.

Wow. That's scary! Sometimes the dub approach irons out some problems (and since you are in the digital world, you won't lose any quality). I would really like to know the results - do I now need to worry about things on my tape other than creases and drop outs?

Yea it is very odd to me. I will try the dub situation and let you know how it works. Any other ideas I am more then welcome to hearing them.

so i dubbed the tape using 2 sony decks, unsure of the model. The quality looks alot better but not perfect yet. Tomorrow i am going to try a dub of the dub and we will see what happens
