FCP Editing DVC PRO HD??

Hi guys. I am editing on Final Cut Pro 5.14 and I have just shot a music video on a Panasonic Varicam. I shot on DVC Pro HD tapes in 720/25p.

I have been told I can capture on a Panasonic AJ-HD1400 VTR deck which I have access to.

Can anyone help me and let me know how to capture successfully so I can edit on my FCP?

I will have the deck on Monday.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Asked quite a few people and no one seems to know how.

Cheers.

It's pretty simple. All you need to do is connect the deck via FW and start a new project using the 720p25 Easy Setup.

Go to easy setup and setup the project according to how you shot it.

New sequence > File > Log & Capture

I've done this, and you're right AND wrong :)

You must capture the footage @ 1080 p25 if you're in FCP 5.x.x

The uprez happens within the deck.

You can capture over FireWire or HD-sdi if the deck is equipped with that.

Works like a charm, and 1080 uprezzed from Varicam footage is real nice to work with.

As the article states, Varicam is basically an NTSC device with variable frame rates that makes it a "world" camera... with some workarounds applied.
It ALWAYS records @ the same speed (60'ish P) but can flag "only" 25 frames a sec or whatever to accomodate other framerates. Like 25p.

Cheers!

Yes.

Sorry for being unprecise.

The Varicam is 720, whatever you do with it.

The scaling I'm talking about happens in the deck as you capture the footage.

If you're on FCS 6.02, I guess you could even capture the 720 p25 signal, BUT I never tested that.

In 5.x.x, hook up the deck, read the manual, set the deck to scale up to 1080 and capture at 1080 i50/pfs 25 (which is sorta formaly the term for 1080 p25)
