You have to "Trash the preferences" Go to the apple site & do a search on 'trashing preferences' in the final cut section, there should be detailed instructions on how to do it....

It's possible a problem caused by an audio or video plugin. Try to see when FCP is loading what is the last thing that trying to load before crash.

happened to me once because I was bringing some high rez stills into a timeline that were CMYK. forgot to check before.

You usually don't have to type in the whole damn thing before it pops up.
After you do that, take it, and trash it.
Restart your computer. Close all of your programs and open Final Cut.
Then set up your capture bin and settings again.
Some bug makes this happen every once in a while.

Their is more than one preference file to be trashed...I recommend getting FCP Rescue, its one click to trash all the prefs, and one click to restore a backup. You can even make a backup of your preferences, so that every time you trash them you don't have to reset any customizations you made.
