FCP crash on render

MacBook Pro, 10.5.4, 2.6 GHz Intel, 4 GB RAM. Trying to render a pct graphic with the Kaleidoscope filter applied from the Tiling Effects folder. Figured out how to get it to render in it's own project as the only clip without crashing, but when supered over another shot and with a layer of text, the render crashes FCP every time.
The pct also has another filter on it (4-pt. garbage matte). Thanks for any help.
 
ive had some similar problems.
i had to remove and reapply the filter.

another time i had this problem i rendered my sequence in small parts
to find out where the crash was happening.
