FCP Compression for a Projector

I'm working on the announcements at my school and i'm trying to put a video i can export in FCP 4.5 or iMovie HD, but whenever i go to put it into Keynote, the video is jumpy, distorted.(we export the keynote files as self-playing quicktime movies with 8 second slides.) The videos im trying to put in are football videos (if thats an important fact or not.) I make and export the videos on a G4 PowerMac using FCP 4.5 and sometimes G5 iMac using iMovie HD. The notebook the school has hooked up to the projector is G4 500MHZ, 512 SDRam. So i was wondering if anybody had any idea's on how i can fix this. Any help would be great.

Thanks

Can you just burn a DVD, that'll look pretty good? It could play from a disc or a VIDEO TS folder on the hard drive.

If it is a short video, you can fit around 20mins of DV footage onto a 4.7GB DVD. Just export using quicktime converter using full quality DV (PAL or NTSC depending on you country). That file should then be burn to DVD and then transferred to the laptop hard drive. It should play back fine from that, but test it first.

well i've already tried mpeg4,cinepack,and video and so far none has worked, they all are still jumpy. After i export them, i put them into keynote as a quicktime, and then export the whole keynote file as a self-playing quicktime. It would also be pointless for me to burn a dvd becasue i am making the announcements everday so they are up to date. so burning a dvd each time would be really expensive.

Try just DV then, even a slow G4 should be able to play DV footage pretty smoothly. Mpeg4 codecs can take more processing power.

Do you have to use Keynote? If you're on a fast machine keynote can do ok but it sounds like the only reason for keynote is to add slides, since you're outputting keynote to QT?
Keynote is designed for presentations where you may wantto hold on something or may need to randomly change something.
From your description you should consider creating a project in FCP. Add your slides or titles in fCP and export it. No need for keynote.
Also note that if QT is 24fps and you place it into keynote i's possible it may not handle the non-standard speed well.

check your fields......maybe they got switched before encoding? It sounds like Keynote is messing it up when it exports to QT. I dont use keynote...what are its exporting settings for going to QT?

Ok my school usues keynote for the annoucnements. we put each little announcement on a slide. I could try and make it in iMovie i guess or FCP.
I am exporting the movie as a self-playing quicktime movie with 8 seconds to each slide. but yea the FCP idea might work, just make it a little harder i guess but nothing is ever easy i guess. thanks for the feedback. If you have any more ideas i'd be gald to hear them.
