For you guys that use FCP. Whats the best way to learn the program? Should i bother taking classes at the local communicty college. Do the books really help? Im still trying to learn this damn program. I find it very very over whelming compared to imovie. FCP to me is like imovie on steroids. So many features, and little swicthes everywhere. Ive learned how to capture, and do some simple edits. However, even doing this i dont know if ive done it the right way or not. Should i just keep at it?

Do this book, cover to cover, on your own before you do anything else!

"Apple Pro Training; Final Cut Pro 5"

Nothing will get you up and running PROPERLY faster or easier, period. It comes with a DVD full of fantastic material (most shot on HD) from actual projects for you to follow along with the book. Nothing on the market better.

Then go find all the tutorials you can AFTER that. Trust me, I've been teaching this stuff for years.

there a lot of great DVD tutorials too that are inexpensive, if you're more of a visual person. the DVD's normally come with media/projects so you can work along with the instructor. i bought one for FCP basic level and another for Color Correcting in FCP.

Classes are a good way to go because you can ask questions specific to your type of production while you're there as they pop into your head. A class can take months off the learning curve and keep you from developing bad habits to begin with. Many times with FCP there will be operations that can be done in one keystroke that folks do in 3-5 mouse clicks. Little things like that can make the difference between taking a vacation this year, or still working on a project while the deadline looms.

Watch a few of the demo videos of the DVcreators Final Cut Foundations DVD and see if it's something that you'll learn from. http://www.dvcreators.net/final-cut-pro-foundations/

Different folks learn in different ways, a book, a class, a DVD, you have a few options...it just matters whats right for you in your timeframe with your budget.

Cheers,

Guy
