FCP audio to Vegas question

I have been tasked with audio editing on several occasions where the original files are coming from FCP. I am using Vegas and importing the audio files as OMF files.

The problem is that OMF files do not bring volume and panning info along with them so I have to start from scratch even though the project was pretty close in FCP. with time restraints this is a big problem.
Anyone know another file format that could be exported from FCP that would bring along panning/volume info into Vegas?.

Wave files won't work because you loose the time line and everything would have to be re-aligned
when imported to FCP.

I'm trying to find a way to work with others who use FCP. any ideas would be very helpful.

What a sore spot this is. I am trying to go the other way (have been for 3 weeks) between Vegas and FCP/Protools/Avid.

God help you if your project needs to go back to FCP!!!

1. AAF - everyone says just export an aaf. Oh yeah, why didn't I think of that! Sony has fixed that for you by exporting an AAF alright, but one that no user on the planet using FCP, AVID, or Protools can open. Yes, even when you try Avid Legacy AAF or edit compliant AAF with or without embedded media.

2. OMF - Forget it. Vegas wishes it had this in it's wildest dreams. At least I do.

3. .XML - Maybe yours works, but mine doesn't. I get a stack dump when I run the script. I don't know why - neither does Vegas tech support (or the developers!!!!)

4. .TXT Vegas video edit files are one of the only things that hold a promise of working. And I still haven't got them to work.

Sony Vegas is a great NLE, but one with the poorest, most miserable, piece of shi* compatibilites of any piece of software I have ever used.

It has cost me 3 weeks and thousands of dollars in the post audio for my film. To say it is useless as a post audio app is untrue - it is good in and of itself, just don't export or import anything.

The worst part of the whole thing has been the tech support, they truly don't know **** about their own product at Sony even with a gold plan!

It seems as if every real project I get is from FCP and this is a big problem for me.
I also use Sonar and have thousands invested in plug-ins for post audio, but have the same problem with files coming from FCP.

OMF works fine in Sonar but no volume/panning info goes with these files.

My recommendation is to completely dispense with Vegas for post audio of any kind unless the project originates in Vegas and will stay in Vegas.

Vegas is an amazing video edit tool and an amazing Audio edit tool but the makers have so constricted it's compatibility with other programs over their own petty rivalries with other firms.

Now you know why professionals do not use Sony Vegas.

That has been my gut feeling from the first project I received from FCP.
The really sad thing is I also use Sonar Producer edition (have for years) and that can't get the job done either.
I can import from Final cut but with the same result. No volume or panning info.

Even the 500.00 DUCK plug-in seems to only work with Protools and other Mac based programs.

Unfortunately, this very much appears to be true. :(
