FCP and video cards

The more I look at video cards for my G5, the more confused I get.

I thought there wouldn't be much difference, as far as Final Cut is concerned, in upgrading from my stock FX5200 (1.8DP/AGP). Then I saw on Apple's specs page that my card meets minimum requirements, but a better card -- like the ATI x800 XT -- is recommended.

Is this true only because Motion is part of FC Studio, or does it apply to any of the other bundled apps?

I'm not sure either.. I know motion is indeed GPU instensive and that an x800xt wil give you an enormous boost in that application, but not sure what the dealio is with FCP. I upgraded to the x800xt and never thought about it beyond that. Aperture is another one that will see significant performance increases from a better GPU. That app is waaaay faster now, like 3x or more and I'm liking it. I've got a G5 dual 2.0 with 4gb ram. If anyone wants to donate a dual-core 3.0 xeon Mac Pro to my editing suite I'll be happy to name one of my children after you. "Oh btw your new name is Michael. But daddy- Now, Michael do we need to have this argument again. What is it now daddy.. another camera?"

FCP is slowly using GPU more and more. It's mostly for Motion, but FCP is psudeo-GPU intensive now, also, and will be as greedy as Motion by v.6.

So I give you a computer and your kid gets a name change to "Hey, bra!"?
