FCP and Slo-motion interlace artifcact problem

I just recently purchased Barry's book and I'm also new at all this so bare with me. I tried doing a search but I can't find fcp and slo motion settings.

My goal is to make slow motion.
I shot some footage progressive off (I believe this is 60i) and captured it to fcp 5.
My settings are already set to 23.98 capture as a preset.

I copied my footage to my timeline. slowed it down to 40%. And I keep getting "combing" or interlace artifacts whenever there's motion. How to I resolve this in FCP if I want to put it with the rest of the 24pa footage?

Sorry for the ultra newbie question.

Barry's advice works for Sony Vegas, but not for FCP. It's actually a lot of work in FCP.

1. Download the Eureka Slow-Mo Plug-In.
2. Capture the non-progressive clip using the 29.97 preset.
3. Start a new 29.97 timeline in FCP
4. Trim the clip the way you like, then copy it and place it behind the first clip. You need two of the exact same clip, back to back.
5. Export this timeline to an intermediate codec (uncompressed, for example).
6. Import into FCP onto a new 29.97 timeline.
7. Add the Eureka Slow-Mo and Render.
8. Export this to DV25 Codec (again, 29.97).
9. Open Cinema Tools and import the clip.
10. Hit "Conform to 23.98Fps" then close Cinema Tools.
11. Import the same clip you adjusted in Cinema Tools into a 23.98 Timeline, and Voila. Good.

*3,4 are necessary if you want to use the entire clip. If you don't follow 3,4 the clip will only be "slow-mo" on the first half. The other half won't. This is a problem with Eureka's plug-in.*

The other method, which I haven't tried, is using Graeme Nattress' $99 Standards Conversion package, which promises to streamline the process. He could tell you more about it, I'm sure.

Hope this helps.

thisiswells, thank you so much for taking the time to give me the steps. This helps me a lot. I was so confused on why my footage didn't work. I'm going to give this a try, thanks!!! I will give Eureka a try.

Does anyone have any info on Graeme Nattress? If it's more streamline, this might be more useful.
