FCP and P2

One of my friend is shooting for the biggest snowboard movies and switched from 16mm to HD last year. He captured his HD footage on his G4 with FCP 5. Last week, he upgraded to a MacBook Pro, reinstall the same FCP 5 but capturing his HD doesn't work anymore...?? Anyone know what the problems could be?

P2 drivers are not required to capture P2 footage with FCP 5.1. I don't know abour FCP 6.

I have a Mac Pro and FCP 5.1. All that is necessary is a firewire connection, and the camera has to be in P2 mode with 1394 Connect set in the menu (not 1394 Host), and don't forget the camera has to set to PC mode. He probably just needs to recheck all settings.

I also find it worhtwhile to make sure the camera is connected, turned on and recognized before starting FCP.

It's FCP 5.0 not 5.1 On it's G4, it was written 5.1 and on the MBP it's 5.0 ....?? So if he install the P2 driver on his MBP with FCP 5.0, will it work? (Where can he find the driver??)

well, I can't tell which version you mean-

As far as I know, there are no drivers for the Mac, and you need 5.1 to capture P2 directly to FCP.

I'm not completely sure here becaus eI've never used 5.0. You might check up on the HVX forum under "Workflow", there has been some discussion there.
