FCP and metadata?

What kind of DV metadata does FCP store when capturing from MiniDV tape? I know that the dvx100b writes a ton of info onto the tape but I have not been able to find a way to access it. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

All metadata is captured as the camera recorded it. FCP just doesn't READ that metadata. Something I've been screaming at them about for 8 years!!

I use a program called CatDV to organize my clips offline where I can read all metadata. I can even export XML into FCP from there.

Thank you for this. This will help me a lot. I have a question about xml though. I have heard of this but I do not know what it is really used for or what it is. Any help?

Lots of stuff in the manual on it... but basically it is like EDL on steroids.

Will bring in clips and metadata as well as if you are working between FCP edit suites it will also bring in any clip filters or attributes AND transitions.

Very helpful when sending projects across country (if they have the same media as you do).

So does it take the place of the actual clip and you can edit it or what? Also, which manual are you referring to? The fcp manual?

Doesn't take the PLACE of the clip... XML is a code... coder-code for a back door entry into FCP.

If I was to send you an XML of a project I was working on you'd have all the clips show up offline in the sequence I was working on. Along with that, any attributes or filters I used would also be in the VIDEO and FILTER tab along with my adjustments.

That said - you still need the media on your end to connect the clips.

And yes... the FCP manual.
