FCP 7 - Failing Clips in Log and Transfer

So about 1 out of 5 clips fail to import on the initial run, but they import after a retry.

I name my clips in name + counter format, so it's incredibly irksome when one fails because I'm left with two clips sharing the same number.

This wouldn't be so dang annoying if Apple moved to the next clip without adapting the numbers to this change.

The way it is now, if clip 003 fails, 004 will become 003. Then when I retry capturing the clip that failed, I'll have two 003 clips!

The HVX and cards have been using have seen less than 10 hours of use.

Is there a way to fix this numbering problem in FCP 7?

:badputer:

Personally this is exactly why I don't rename clips too much in camera and do it after Log and Transfer is complete in the FCP browser only- never on the .MOV files.

To add to what Noah said, in fcp7 once you change the names in the browser, you can highlight them, right click, go to the bottom and choose RENAME - FILE TO MATCH CLIP NAME . Then the source media will match the names you've given them in fcp. Not neccessary to do, but is there if you wanted to have the names match just in case you ever needed to relink or find the media.
